Quake hosted Mascot Vipers at 'The Epicentre' on Saturday and recorded its best results against their long time rivals scoring 6 wins and suffering just 3 losses to earn 18 Club Championship points.  Quake are now just 4 points behind 2nd place Majik in the Championship and our Women and 16 Boys clinched their Minor Premierships with 2 rounds still to play. Brief reports follow.

Academy

This was a vey entertaining game that saw end to end action and some very good 'keeping from both teams.  In a close contest Quake remained patient and took their chances well.  In the end our boys finished stronger and just shaded Vipers.

12 Boys won 3-1 (Jarrod Galea 1, Angelo Kalamvokis 1 & Adrian Neoklis 1)

This was a professional performance from the boys.  They were never really troubled and probably should have won by more but some poor decsion making in front of goals cost them chances that they should have taken.

12 Girls won 5-1 (Brooke Pepper 2, Amy Sayer 2 & Kyeanne Woods 1)

A very good performance from the senior girls this week who were ably supported by the younger girls.  The conditions were stifling and constant substitutions were required to get the girls through the game.  Even so, 3 girls were extremely distressed at the end of the game and Caitlin stepped up yet again, putting in a mammoth effort to help the team out.  The win means the girls cannot miss the finals.  Considering over half the team are only 11 years old this is a terrific achievement.

14 Boys lost 2-7 (Daniel Blachura 1 & Jarrad Wiley 1)

A much improved effort from the first round game, which the boys lost 12-1, especially considering several players were missing.  The boys created plenty of chances too and who knows what could have happened if they had been taken?  Jarrod was back to full fitness this week and showed everyone just how good he can be and was rewarded with a nice goal.  A loss but the boys effort can't be faulted.

14 Girls - Sponsored by JR Electrical – lost 0-6

The girls were right in this up until half time.  With Lauren having a blinder in goals the girls kept the score to 0-0.  But Vipers regrouped and scored 3 goals in 3 minutes immediatley after the break and the heat then took a toll on our girls and their performance slipped away.  Well done to Brooke from the 12s for helping out and holding her own against bigger and better players and Christina should be applauded for her 110% effort.

16 Boys won 6-3 (Harry Bagot 2, Anthony Haddad 1, Trent Sierra 1, Connor Powers 1 & Daniel Blachura 1)

A fine effort from the boys reversing the result from the first round game against Vipers.  The lads dominated the game from about 10 minutes in with the only concern being conceding late goals in both halves.  Connor Powers and Harry continue to impress and Daniel stepped up from the 14s and looked very comfortable in the higher grade.  And Conor Irwin was very good again today making crucial saves when required.  The boys wrapped up the Minor Premiership with 2 rounds to play with this win.  Well done lads!

16 Girls - Sponsored by Macarthur Marble & Granite – lost 2-5 (Rosie Galea 1 & Mel Walsh 1)

The girls were right in this at 2-3 down mid way through the 2nd half but Vipers turned on the after burners and took control of the game to run out comfortable winners.  Mel put in another committed effort and Erin pulled off some fine saves to keep the girls in the game.  Even though this was a 3 goal loss the girls'effort was there and we must give them credit for that.

Youth won 5-1 (Shannon Fielding 3, Anthony Hadd 1 & Marko Filipovic 1)

It's great to see Shannon back in the form of old and when he plays like this he is almost unstoppable.  His hat trick was well deserved.  This was a better performance than the score board shows - at times we had combinations of 15, 16 and 17 year olds on the court and they played very well indeed.  And at 4-1 up Chris conceded a dubious penalty but, after the shock of mistakenly being given a red card instead of a yellow, he pulled himslef together to save the penalty and set the team back on track for the win.  The boys now head the table and a win next round will seal the Minor Premiership.

Women - Sponsored by Dunsheas United Realty – won 4-2 (Laura Donelly 2, Zoeie Redman 1 & Elisha Willimas 1)

In the end a comfortable win but the girls didn't play at their best and still missed too many chances.  Credit to Vipers who fielded a very young side and who were in the game with 10 minutes left to play.  Elisha continues to improve every game and is developing a knack of being in the right place at the right time to score important goals and Shorty just keeps running her socks off.  The girls sealed the Minor Premiership with this win and can use the next 2 games to work on improving their finishing.

Men won 10-2 (Jordan Mundell 4, Danny Martinez 3, Dean Lockhart 2 & Harley Da Silva 1)

This was simply a smashing with Jordan and Danny on fire and Bully joining in on the goal scoring spree.  The lads dominated the match and it was only some good keeping early on that kept the score down.  In the end the number of shots was just too much for the Vipers 'keeper and it didn't help when they went 5th man and were clinically picked off with the 'keeper out of goal.  The lads looked very good today and won against the bottom placed team in the manner they should have.

Summary

None of us can remember ever taking so many points in a round against Vipers and yesterday's results give us a shot of finishing 2nd in the Club Championship.  We already have 2 Minor Premierships - the Women and 16 Boys - in the bag and could wrap up another 2 next round if the Youth and 12 Boys win.  The 12 Girls will also play in the Finals and the Men are looking good for a finals berth too.  All in all a good day of futsal with the prospect of plenty more to come.

Premier League breaks next week with our next games on Saturday 25 January @ Riverwood against Magic.

As always……GO QUAKE!
