One of our Keepers of the Standard inductees in Jack Reilly.

 

Jack Reilly born 27 August 1945 in Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

 

Represented Australia 35 times during the 1970s and was a member of the 1974 FIFA World Cup Squad that played in Germany as our Goal Keeper. Jack played in all three world cup games against West Germany, East Germany and Chile. He also represented Victoria.

 

 

 

Jack career started playing reserve football at Hibernian in Scotland and then made two appearances in the Scottish Football league between 1963-67. In 1967Jack moved to America to play for Washington Whips for 17 apperarnces before moving to Australia in 1970 signing with Juventus. After showing immense talent during his debut season he was drafted into the Australia squad for a world tour in 1970. After the world tour Jack transferred to St George Saints in Sydney then in 1972 transferred to Melbourne Hakoah or then a record fee for a goal keeper of $6,000.

 

Once his duties concluded after the 1974 world Cup Reilly transferred to Fitzory United(Heidelberg United) in 1975 for 52 games before transferring to South Melbourne and playing 41 games until the 1980 season which saw Jack Reilly retire.

 

Jack was also named in the FFA team of the decade of 1971-1980, Inducted in the FFA Hall of fame in 2004 ‘ Medal of Excellence’
