Under 12s

Arriving to water soaked Royal Park on a freezing cold Sunday morning I am certain everyone, like me, left with cold soaked feet but did not mind this slight discomfort after watching the girls put in a grand performance.

The girls always seem to rise to occasion and play terrific football when they face a stern test. And this week it was no different. They dominated the first half and went into the break 1 nil up thanks to a wonderful drive from outside the box from Del.

The majority of the action and goals came in the second half. The second goal was scored by Isabella E following some great work by Del on the right wing. Del beat a couple of players sent in a low cross which Isabella controlled wonderfully with her first touch and put a low shot past the keeper. The third goal came from some excellent solo work from Hollie down the left wing. She controlled and dribbled the ball past a number of players before cutting in to centre and putting in cross to the ever reliable Del. Del as usual finished efficiently.

Leading comfortably 3 – 0 at this stage credit to Ashburton United SC Green who dug down deep and decided to make a game of it. They put a spell of pressure on our defence and scored to make it 3-1. And then they came close as they opened up our defence and just missed an open goal. Kristine, our captain for the day, made some great saves that kept them at bay.

Following that spell of domination from our opposition the girls once again lifted and put the game out of their reach following some great build up play between Kristina and Hollie. Some wonderful passing between them in the midfield opened up Ashburton’s defence. A low cross from the left hand side of the park was once again finished off expertly by Del. In the last few minutes they scored another consolation goal but by that stage the game was finished.

It was a great team effort. Special mention once again to Kristine who performed exceptionally the whole game as keeper. The entire defence, Isabella G, Keeley, Kristina, Destiny, Emma, Genevieve and Jamie was outstanding for the most part. The defence only lapsed for a short period in the second half. The entire midfield and attack performed tirelessly. They not only attacked when required but they also ran back to help out in defence. Isabella E, Hollie and Shreya working up and down the wings. Del and Jade once again fantastic work up front. I have to mention everyone this week as it was such a good team performance.

It was great to see the girls at the end of a hard fought 4-2 win signing the club team song loudly and proudly against possibly our hardest opponent in the league.  Well done girls.

BOTH OUR UNDER 14s HAD A BYE THIS WEEK

Under 18s

In the end thi week it was 1-1 against Banyule city. The U18s performed quite well considering that we had not trained for some time and we could see some girls quite tired. We did miss however the opportunity to score the second goal and in the last 8 minutes then they scored their goal.

This is soccer, you miss and you will be ‘punished’. A big thank you to Georgie and Bridget from the u16 who helped us and they were absolutely fantastic. The  U18s and I would like to encourage any girls from the U16s squad to play with us permanently as it may give them more confidence, experience, and also it may be give them the possibility to improve their soccer skills.  This will give them a taste of soccer played in higher category and it could be good taste for next year when they will play in a under 18 team permanenltly. We are currently 4th on the ladder and next week we play Ballarat away.
